Will Eccleston here, president of Kinetiscape Media. I believe it is no longer acceptable in this country to keep our personal beliefs on matters of race separate from the face of our business. The time FINALLY seems ripe for real & meaningful change in this country, and it is incumbent upon all of us to be brave and bold and to move this needle, NOW. We recognize the systemic racism in our country that has gone on far, FAR too long, and the complicity in our own silence. There are no easy solutions to a problem so deeply embedded into American culture, but I vow to do more, to have difficult conversations, to recognize my own biases and my white privilege always, and to do what I can, when I can to affect positive change. “Black lives matter” does not mean that blue lives don’t. It is entirely possible to have great respect for law enforcement while recognizing the need for change.
To take it a step further, I am not interested in doing business with those who are not, at the very least, trying to understand the seriousness of these issues. I am not interested in hearing someone respond to the statement “Black Lives Matter” with “All lives matter”, until such time as that actually seems true in this country. Crying out for social justice does not make anyone anti-white or anti-police. If you cannot understand why these issues are real - and horrific - and why change is so desperately overdue, then you are probably not trying very hard. I would implore you to do a simple google search and find a book that delves into issues of race and white privilege. Read it. Then read another. Think about them. Have conversations. Recognize your own biases and do what you can to shed them.
Let’s all come together and do what it takes to make this a better world for ALL people.
